"Good Artists Copy, Great Artist Steal"
Steve Jobs (played by Noah Wyle) says so in the Pirates of Silicon Valley - I finally watched the movie last night. In it, I saw what passion meant through Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and also saw a level of intensity that made me pity their employees
I am a little history buff when it comes to the history of the business of technology. Furthermore, working with someone who wrote the first ever muti-tasking OS ever at Digital Research makes it all the more insightful and gives me a very different perspective. It is like being there - vicariously through someone else! For example, I was a little disheartened to see that there was no mention of Gary Kildall's Digital Research Inc. in this movie though they did bring Tim Patterson (Owner of Seattle Computer Products) in the picture and Paul Allen's purchase of it for $50k. He "created" his version version called QDOS, which was "very similar" to architecture of DRI's OS.
Secondly, there was also a weird co-incidence that Captain Crunch was featured in the movie. The Wall Street Journal had a detailed article on him on January 13 - not even a couple of weeks ago!
I am big big fan of Steve Jobs' commencement speech at Stanford in 2005. Since he uses three stories and weaves his past into his present really well, I thought I would capture his speech here. His past, the movie, and present, the speech, tie in well for me with this post :)
